Rashmika Mandanna, who has to her credit a huge list of blockbuster hits such as Animal, Pushpa, and Geetha Govindam, will play M S Subbulakshmi, the iconic singer whose classical and devotional music continues to be a regular presence in houses across India.
"All I have in my heart today is gratitude," Rashmika said at an event in Chennai on Wednesday, speaking in Tamil.
The event also marked the 110th birth anniversary of M S Subbulakshmi. Rashmika said she would give the film her best. The film is being made in multiple languages and is intended for pan-Indian audiences.
Kamal Haasan, who was the chief guest, recalled how MS had sung in many languages, and unified the many languages of India. He described all of south India as one Dravidian family. The actor-director remembered how he had been blessed by three great vocalists--MS, M L Vasanthakumari, and D K Pattammal.
Gowtam Tinnanuri is the director of the biopic, with music by Anirudh Ravichandar. Kamal Hassan said the MS film would change the musical trajectory of Anirudh's composing career. "I like the way he is travelling now," he said.
The film is produced by Allu Aravind, Rockline Venkatesh, and Bunny Vas.
